Why Past Life Regression Therapy?  . . . A case in point

Anna, a 32-year-old married woman, had been in therapy with me for several years before we did past life regression therapy (PLRT). She sought out treatment to resolve her grief and reduce her anxiety and panic following the unexpected death of her parents in a motor vehicle accident. Cognitive-behavioral, EMDR, psychodynamic and even psychoanalytic psychotherapy all helped but not for the long term. Two sessions of PLRT revealed her to have had several lifetimes in which she had meaningful relationships with her parents’ souls-either as a friend, parent, daughter etc., however, in each life, those souls’ relationships were terminated prematurely, either via move, abandonment, illness and/or death.Towards the end of the second PLR session, Anna announced that this lifetime was to be the last in which that would happen. That was where the healing occurred. The PLRT had the most long-term effects in assisting her with her pain and healing, more so than any of the other therapeutic techniques.

What is Past Life Regression Therapy?

Past-Life Regression Therapy (PLRT) is a very powerful hypnotic tool. It can help explain certain behaviors and/or relationships that have not been understood through any other methods. It is through the remembering, which is often accompanied by an internal experience or abreaction, that the issue is resolved. Sometimes it is just the knowledge, real or not, that can assist in the healing.

PLRT was never a first line intervention technique. In fact, it is a general rule that it was not utilized until other therapeutic methods had been exhausted. It does not have to be that way. It does help, however, if there is some knowledge that standard psychotherapeutic measures just do not do the job. Mostly it helps when you come in with a specific question. It is powerful and quick.

Margaret wanted to know why she had a persistent desire to live overseas, particularly in Australia. After learning that in a prior lifetime she was separated (and never reunited) from her parents as a teen during a trip from Australia to the US in the Victorian times, Margaret’s conflict over moving to Australia (from where her deceased mother originated) resolved as did a relationship that she was clinging to.

There are many other stories and many other successful PLRT outcomes. It is advantageous to the efficacy of the technique if one believes in reincarnation and past lives but it is not mandatory to the outcome.

How Does Past Life Regression Therapy Work?

PLRT is a hypnotic based protocol, which is different from Meditation. It includes an induction, deepening and script for the past life piece. Sessions are generally done in 1.5-2 hour sessions. It generally takes about 15 minutes to get into a trance. The rest of the period is used to explore one or multiple lives. The end of the session is used to disengage from the trance and process the knowledge. It is generally recommended that patients stay in alpha, which is a light trance. Beta is waking and theta and delta are deeper stages of brain activity, which, if entered runs the risk of having the patient fall asleep.

Who does Past Life Regression work?

It is recommended that someone with proper training and experience in Hypnosis perform the regression. I also recommend that someone with a higher level training, such as a psychologist, be employed in cases where other more powerful things have the capacity to surface. For example, people who dissociate are very susceptible to hypnosis and should these issues present themselves, it is important to have someone who is adequately trained to deal with them.
